Marblecast FAQ

What are Engineered Composites?

Solid Surface Counter Cultured marble a process in which a mixture of fiberglass, resin and crushed limestone is cast into various molds to achieve a desired shape. Cultured marble belongs to the family of cast polymerswhich are a mixture of an unsaturated polyester resin, highly filled with inorganic particulates and pigments. Fillers used are engineered calcium carbonates (for cultured marble), aluminum tri-hydrate (for cultured onyx) and aluminum tri-hydrate with a suspension of specialty formulated colour chips (for cultured granite).

This process allows for the delivery of a durable product that can be made available in standard or custom sizes, shapes and colours. Of course, the shape and size of the product depends on the mold that is used, but once poured into an open mold and finished with a clear gelcoat, the end result is a durable, non-porous, hi-gloss, stain resistant surface.

Why Use Engineered composites?

Solid Surface TableSolid surface engineered composite products are seamless and sanitary in nature. The gel coat surface finish makes them impervious to bacteria and staining, thus eliminating most of the problems exhibited in natural stone.

Once hardened it makes an extremely strong and durable product that becomes resistant to chips and is incredibly easy to take care of making it very popular in bathrooms and kitchens.

Solid surface engineered composites can be joined with no gaps, which eliminates areas for water to collect and bacteria to grow. Scratched, broken, or has undergone years of wear and tear can, in most cases, can be repaired quickly by a certified solid surface repair company or trained fabricator.

In addition, marble, onyx, granite solid surfaces are so easy to take care of. It is a fantastic substance for baths, sinks, wall panels, whirlpool baths, back splashes, and more. It holds up better than natural marble, is more resistant to staining, and if it chips it can be easily fixed.
